Best Practices Of Alumni Management Sharing Seminar Suggestion On Founding Public University Alumni Council

Best Practices of Alumni Management Sharing Seminar conducted in Senate Hall, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) on 24th and 25th February 2020 concluded to agree on the suggestion of founding Public University Alumni Council as the first resolution from this seminar. Considering the role of Alumni Centre these days are vital and more than just connecting alumni with their Alma Alter, other roles such as to gain funding also need to be highlighted as implemented by other universities outside of the country. Other than the suggestion mentioned earlier, second resolution that was to propose special grant to Ministry of Education (MoE) for this Alumni Council to perform any activities and programs in the future.

Third resolution that consented together in this seminar is the proposal of direct involvement for alumni to determine University’s next move through the appointment of University’s Board of Director. At the same time, fourth resolution is to demand the responsibility of Alumni Council as the policy maker party of Alumni Centre aligned with MoE guidelines. In the meantime, fifth resolution outlined to strengthen the role of Alumni Centre to be equivalent with other Division with the mean of to get access for financial funding, human resources and other facilities that considered suitable in University’s ecosystem. Sixth resolution is to equip sufficient incentives to industries that collaborated with University’s Alumni Centre.

Together with USIM, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) dan Universiti Teknikal Melaka Malaysia (UteM) had conducted this seminar with the cooperation of Holistic Student Division, MoE featured with theme “Empowering Alumni for University Sustainability”. This seminar main purpose is to be the sharing platform for alumni management best practices for every university participated. Besides, this seminar is expecting to empower the role of Alumni Centre in universities by considering uprising issues and challenges in alumni management, specifically in Malaysia.

This seminar was officiated by The Honorable Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Rushdan Mohd Jailani, Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs Division) USIM that represented Director of Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education. This seminar was held for two consecutive days involving 60 participants from all Public Universities. In conjunction of this seminar, a few paperwork was presented parallel with seminar scope regarding University Alumni Centre Management & Alumni Funding; Alumni Rebranding; University Alumni Association Management and Alumni Information System & Portal.

In officiation speech by The Honorable Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Rushdan Mohd Jailani, Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs Division) USIM mentioned that the role of University’s Alumni is significant these days and the process for rebranding Alumni University need to be steadfast. Alongside the effort to propel the roles of Alumni, efficient administration and governance must be delivered consistently to enable the management of Alumni can fulfilled the benchmark set just like foreign universities practices. Their success needs to be praised as they managed to get Alumni become a part of the main funder to their university.
